Technical specifications of the joint

Femoral component

The surface of the femoral component closely resembles the anatomy of the natural knee joint. The medial and lateral joint surfaces of the femur have a similar radius of curvature, while the centers of rotation of the axes are slightly offset in the sagittal direction: the center of rotation of the medial joint surface lies a few millimeters to the front (asymmetry). The femoral component is made of a high-tensile cobalt-chrome-molybdenum alloy (CoCrMo). Left and right versions are available in sizes ranging from 60 to 78 mm in width (A-B-C-D-E)

The red points indicate the possible combinations for the tibial and femoral components.

Tibial components

The tibial component of the ÆQUOS G1 endoprosthesis consists of the tibial plate (CoCrMo alloy), a central stud and the inlay made from an ultra-high-molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE). The tibial plate is available in five different sizes ranging from 67 to 87 mm in width (A-B-C-D-E). Left and right versions are identical, which reduces stock piling. Studs help make the anchoring modular. The polyethylene inlay is also available in five different sizes (left and right version), the vertical heights starting from 8 mm. It is possible to mix and match any of the three intermediate femoral and tibial components, allowing for a more adjusted fit to the anatomical dimensions.

The polyethylene inlay is mounted on the metal base according to a proprietary process. The tolerance of this attachment is optimized so as to ensure that the inlay sits tight and firm in situ after reaching body temperature. This procedure effectively reduces the risk of wear and tear induced by micromovements.

Patella component

The ÆQUOS knee system includes as an option the replacement of the patella surface. The dome-shaped, round patella component is made of UHMWPE. A ribbed stud ensures that the component is firmly cemented onto the patella surface (onlay technique). It is available in three sizes with diameters of 31, 34 and 37 mm).
